Welcome to Our Blog

This blog was started to allow friends and family to see what is going on in our lives. Sit back, hold on and stay a while. It's going to be a bumpy road with a four year old and a newborn on board.

Hectic Times

As many of you that have kids know, it can get really hectic at times. I feel like sometimes I am being pulled in all different directions trying to meet Jaxon's needs and still give Mason the attention he craves. Mason is still being a great big brother and want's to hold Jaxon all the time. Sometimes I forget that I am not only a mother but I am a wife too and I have been trying not to neglect my husband as well. Sometimes when I lay down to go to sleep at night I wonder if I even talked to my husband other than to say "Can you do this for Mason" or "Can you do that for Jaxon". It's difficult to balance everything sometimes but I'm figuring it all out.

And now I am going to leave you with a few pictures I have taken recently of the kids.

Must Haves: Month 1

I've decided to start doing a series of posts for the mothers out there that are not sure what they need and do not need for their baby for each months. Remember this is just my opinion so I am in no way telling you what to buy and what not to buy.

Gripe water is wonderful. It is made with organic ingredients and is for upset stomachs, gas, teething and hiccups in infants and babies. It gets rid of Jaxon's upset stomach and gas almost immediately.

The boppy pillow is great for mom's who are breastfeeding. Although I only used it for about two weeks for this purpose, since Jaxon decided he liked the bottle better, I still use it now to prop my arms on while I'm holding him and giving him his bottle. You might not think it would be that hard to hold up an eleven pound baby but after a while he seems more like twenty pounds. This is also great for big brothers and sisters to use to help support the baby when they think they just have to hold them.

The pack n play has been used a tremendous amount. It is in our living room and this is where Jaxon naps during the day. You by no means have to have one but it has been very convenient for us. It also has a changing table on the top and this is where all of his diapers are changed. (If you look close you can see him sleeping in there now.)

I'm not even sure what the proper name for this is. We call it the wedge. It is adjustable and you can lay your baby in it on his side and it supports him so he doesn't roll over. This has been a necessity around our house since Jaxon WILL NOT sleep on his back. I think I spoiled him letting him sleep on his stomach during the day and then he didn't want to sleep on his back any more. I was not going to let him sleep on his stomach at night though when I couldn't watch him because it has been found that putting them on their stomach increases the odds of SIDS by 50%. That's just not a chance I was willing to take with my son's life. So now he sleeps on his side and he's happy and we're happy because we get to sleep at night. :)

On those days when Jaxon doesn't want to be put down because he has a stomach ache, this item is a God send. I just strap him to the front of my chest while I'm cleaning, or whatever I happen to be doing that doesn't allow me to just sit and hold him, and it soothes him right to sleep. It is also useful when Mason wants to go outside and play. I just strap Jaxon in and take him with us.

Stay tuned to next months list of items.

Mason: Four Years

Mason, I can't believe you are four years old already. It seems like only yesterday we brought you home from the hospital and didn't really know what to do with you. The last couple of years you have been such a blessing to me and your daddy. You are our first born and you will always hold a special place in our hearts. You allowed me to be a mother, which has always been a special dream of mine. Sometimes you can be such a handful and then others you are so sweet and ready to do whatever is asked of you and help in any way you can. You love to help me clean and cook all the time. You care about others a lot and can't stand to see someone hurting. You have a huge heart. Your laughter is so contagious and you love to make others laugh by acting funny.
You are such a good big brother. You are always ready to hold your baby brother and help feed him. As soon as he starts crying you have to get his pacifier and poke it in his mouth b/c you can't stand to hear him cry. You love to help with his baths and changing his diapers.
Remember you are loved by so many and don't ever forget that. I can't wait to see what this year brings.

Four Weeks

Four Week Update

Date: March 8, 2011

Weight: 11 pounds 3 ounces

Seriously? How can my cute little baby already be four weeks old? Time has really flown. He has changed so much in the past four weeks.

  • Jaxon found his ears this week.
  • He can roll onto his side but can't quiet figure out how to make it to his stomach yet.
  • We found out he sleeps a lot better on his stomach but we only let him do that during the day when we can watch him closely.
  • He loves to cuddle. He would much rather sleep on one of our chests than in his own bed.
  • He started eating every 2 to 2.5 hours now. He's still eating 4 ounces. We tried him on 5 ounces but most of the time he still only ate the 4. He's just wanting to eat more often.
  • He started smiling.
  • His cheeks and his body are filling out. He's starting to have rolls.
  • He's started cooing and "talking" all the time.

He Can't Be 4!

Mason turned 4 on February 21st. We had his party the 19th, eleven days after I had Jaxon. He had a blast and thought it was supposed to be his birthday for about two weeks prior to his party. He got a ton of toys (like he needed any). Thanks everyone for coming out and helping us celebrate. I still can't believe my first born is four already. He's growing so fast.
