Welcome to Our Blog

This blog was started to allow friends and family to see what is going on in our lives. Sit back, hold on and stay a while. It's going to be a bumpy road with a four year old and a newborn on board.

These Days

These days around my house this is what you mostly see.
Mason in Jaxon's crib letting him watch him play his Nintendo DS.

Mason showing Jaxon how to play with his toys on his walker.

Me and the boys playing on the computer.

Mason playing with Jaxon in the floor.

Mason letting Jaxon watch him play his DS again.

Mason and Jaxon again. :)

Wherever I put Jaxon, that's where you'll find Mason. People keep asking me if Mason is jealous of his brother. You tell me. You can tell he loves him to death. Sometimes so much that he drives Jaxon crazy but don't tell him that. :) Don't get me wrong there have been a couple of days that were hard for Mason and he would get mad because I had to do something for Jaxon and couldn't play with him but for the most part he has adjusted really well. Actually, a lot better than we had expected. Watching these boys grow up together and interact is such a blessing. I have a feeling they will be really close forever.

Two Months

Two Month Update

Date: April 8, 2011

Weight: 14 pounds 4 ounces

Well, Jaxon is still growing way too fast. I can't believe he's already been here two whole months.

  • He smiles all the time and laughs too.
  • He scoots on his belly and back.
  • He has started pulling hair. Mason loves to get his head close to him so that he pulls his hair but then he doesn't like it when he actually has a hold of it.
  • He's drinking 5 ounces of formula every 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • He loves his bath time. He's learned to kick his feet so he can splash water all over Mommy.
  • He's in size two diapers.
  • Some of his 3-6 month outfits are too small. He wears mostly 6 month outfits now.
  • For a couple of nights he only got up once for a bottle during the night but most of the time it's still twice.
  • Mason has made up a song for Jaxon that goes like this:
Little by, Little by (should be lullaby but you can't make him understand that.)
Go to sleep Baby Jaxon
Little by, Little by
Calm Baby Jaxon down.
Mason can sing this song and instantly Jaxon settles down. Mason has also learned how to rock Jaxon to sleep. While in the car, Mason thinks he's in charge of keeping Jaxon quiet so he's constantly putting his pacifier in his mouth and letting him hold on to his finger. I love watching my boys interact with each other. They both love the other so much.

Twins?

Several people have commented on how much Jaxon looks like Mason when he was little. Here's a picture to compare. What do you think? When we were in the hospital having Jaxon it was like looking at Mason all over again. It stirred up so many memories of the first time. We like to think that God knew we couldn't handle twins so he gave them to us four years apart.

Hectic Times

As many of you that have kids know, it can get really hectic at times. I feel like sometimes I am being pulled in all different directions trying to meet Jaxon's needs and still give Mason the attention he craves. Mason is still being a great big brother and want's to hold Jaxon all the time. Sometimes I forget that I am not only a mother but I am a wife too and I have been trying not to neglect my husband as well. Sometimes when I lay down to go to sleep at night I wonder if I even talked to my husband other than to say "Can you do this for Mason" or "Can you do that for Jaxon". It's difficult to balance everything sometimes but I'm figuring it all out.

And now I am going to leave you with a few pictures I have taken recently of the kids.

Four Weeks

Four Week Update

Date: March 8, 2011

Weight: 11 pounds 3 ounces

Seriously? How can my cute little baby already be four weeks old? Time has really flown. He has changed so much in the past four weeks.

  • Jaxon found his ears this week.
  • He can roll onto his side but can't quiet figure out how to make it to his stomach yet.
  • We found out he sleeps a lot better on his stomach but we only let him do that during the day when we can watch him closely.
  • He loves to cuddle. He would much rather sleep on one of our chests than in his own bed.
  • He started eating every 2 to 2.5 hours now. He's still eating 4 ounces. We tried him on 5 ounces but most of the time he still only ate the 4. He's just wanting to eat more often.
  • He started smiling.
  • His cheeks and his body are filling out. He's starting to have rolls.
  • He's started cooing and "talking" all the time.

Three Weeks

Three Week Update

Date:
March 1, 2011

Weight:
9 pounds 6 ounces

  • Jaxon has started to show his temper. When he gets really mad he cries really hard and pulls his hair out of his head.
  • He is already scooting on his back. We lay him in one spot and come back and he has kicked his legs so much he has moved.
  • He loves to be read to.
  • He's having a lot of stomach aches and we're still trying to find a formula that works for him.
  • He still grunts in his sleep and keeps me and his daddy awake a lot. I hope this passes. :)

Two Weeks

2 Week Update

Date:
February 22, 2011

Weight:
9 pounds 6 ounces

  • Jaxon started only taking formula. He didn't want to breastfeed after trying out the bottle.
  • He takes 4 ounces of formula at a time.
  • He sleeps with his arms above his head.
  • His umbilical cord fell off the 21st.
  • He had his first tub bath today. He liked it a whole lot better than the sponge bath.
  • He is still wearing size 1 diapers which he's been in since he was born.
  • He wears size 0-3 months or 3 months. He has outgrown all newborn outfits and a lot of his 0-3 months clothes.
  • He started "tummy time" and lifts his head for short periods of time.
  • When he's awake his legs are going strong all the time. He can't keep them still.
  • He loves to lay on our chests and lay his head on his hands just like Mason did.
  • He is starting to stay awake more. He stays awake for two to three hours during the morning and evening hours.
  • He loves to be worn in a carrier on my chest so he can see everything that's going on around him.
  • He's soothed by reading which Mason loves to do with him.
  • He's very ticklish.
  • His repeat newborn screening came back abnormal and his fatty acids were low. We had to have it repeated and it came back normal this time.
  • He recognizes the voices of me, Tim and Mason and turns his head whenever we are talking.
  • He smiles and laughs out loud in his sleep but doesn't do it while he's awake.

One Week

1 Week Update

Date:
February 15, 2011

Weight:
8 pounds 4 ounces

  • As of last Friday we've been supplementing formula so that Jaxon's jaundice will clear up sooner. Before that he was getting only breast milk.
  • He eats about every three hours.
  • During the night he sleeps about five to six hours at a time only getting up to feed twice after his feeding between 10:00 and 11:00 PM.
  • He is an exceptional baby. He only cries when he's hungry or has a tummy ache.
  • He doesn't like his sponge bath. He gets cold and cries the entire time.
  • When he was born he grunted constantly. He doesn't grunt near as much but he still does occasionally. Mason calls him "little grunter".
  • He doesn't like his pacifier much. He prefers his thumb and index finger together but I'm still trying to force the paci on him.
  • He loves to be swaddled.
  • He has a small birthmark on the back of his left arm.
  • He keeps his hands up in fists around his face just like Mason did. He looks like a little boxer.

He's Here!

Jaxon Colt Kelley was born Tuesday, February 8th, 2011 weighing 8 pounds 11 ounces and 21 inches long. He came into the world screaming his head off and me and his Daddy couldn't be more proud.
He has one very proud big brother. Mason has done extremely well with him. He sits and holds him for hours at a time. He has fed him his bottle, helped give him his bath and helped changed diapers and clothes. So far there has been no jealousy.

Jaxon looks just like his brothers pictures. They could be twins. It's so unreal to see Jaxon laying there and see how much he looks like Mason did.

Approaching the Arrival

Three weeks from tomorrow is when I'm supposed to have a c-section and we get to meet baby Jaxon. I am so ready. That's if he doesn't come early. I've been having contractions for a couple of weeks now but nothing consistent. I've got the infant seat in my truck thanks to Mason. He's been about to drive me crazy asking when we were going to put it in. We did that together Monday and then started packing all the bags to take with us. Mine and Jaxon's for the hospital and Mason's to stay with my parent's.

Today we put up the pack-n-play in the living room and Mason tried to convince me he needed to get in it and try it out to see if it was comfortable enough for Jaxon. We then started on the nursery and I stripped everything out of the crib and put in the washer because sadly the nursery was still set up exactly as Mason left it. :) After getting the washer started me and Mason pulled out all the packs of diapers that I've bought and organized them by the different sizes. We have 29 packs in all. I hope that will last a while. I think I pretty much have everything taken care of. Hopefully! :)

6 More Agonizing Weeks

We have six more weeks until Jaxon is supposed to be here. As long as he's healthy, he can't come soon enough for me. I am so miserable at this point. I'm huge and can't breathe. He's getting so big that he can't even move and when he does my whole belly moves with him. My feet swell by the end of the day and start tingling and I go to the bathroom literally fifty times a day. I go back to the doctor next Thursday. Hopefully I haven't gained too much more weight but that's pretty unlikely since we just ate all through Christmas. :)

20 Weeks: Half Way There!

Facts About Baby:

  • length is 7-9 inches long
  • weighs about one pound
  • ears are developed and he can recognize sound
  • I feel movement all the time. Especially at night.
Facts about Mommy:

  • Total weight gain: 10 pounds. I'm pretty happy with this because I gained a total of 48 pounds with Mason and I'm trying not to gain as much this time. I'm half way through this pregnancy with only a ten pound gain.
  • Symptoms: No more morning sickness. Don't let these words fool you because it's not just "morning" sickness, it's all day sickness. Actually, I never actually got sick but I was nauseous all day, every day. Which to me is worse.
  • If I'm on my feet for a long time they hurt and go numb.
  • I'm hot all the time.
  • I can't lay on my back any more or I can't breathe.
  • I get out of breath easily.
  • I'm hungry all the time. But I'm supposed to be. Right? I'm eating for two.

It's a....

For those of you that I've not already told, IT'S A BOY! We are so excited to be having another boy. His name will be Jaxon Colt Kelley and we expect for him to be here February 8, 2011 by cesarean section.
